Imagine seeing any of them lot in Westminster doing this?
A US senator is being blasted online after posting a video of herself on a beach and twerking whilst doing a headstand on her professional TikTok account.
Democrat Tiara Mack, who serves as the representative for the state of Rhode Island in the US Senate, shared the video on July 4, Independence Day, and although most of the country was busy celebrating in their own way, many have taken umbrage with how she chose to display her patriotism.
As you can see in the short clip, the 28-year-old politician can be seen posing before the video cuts to her upside down and balancing on her head while she twerks – the person filming can be heard saying: “That ass, that ass, that ass!”
The video ends with her asking followers to “vote for Senator Mack” but lots of those in the comments were shocked by the post.
“I don’t ever wanna hear you complain about how ‘women aren’t respected in this country’ after posting this”, “Wow! And this is the future of your party!?? Ugh” and “A United States Senator. Wow. Just wow.” are just some of the remarks left on the video. One person even suggested that she had “set the race back YEARS with this.”
Earlier that same day, she also posted another video with her friends saying “eat the rich, go to the beach”, as well as a clip of her joking, “how many nip slips am I allowed to get on the fourth of July?”, to which a friend responds: “you already have three”

Many people in the comments didn’t warm to that post either, with the top comment simply reading, “How did you become a Senator?”; another said, “If this is what senators do with their free time they should be voted out of offices”.
Nevertheless, some gave more positive feedback, with people adding, “I need to see more politicians doing this” and joking, “I was gonna vote anyway but now voting harder”. Either way, Mack didn’t seem to blink following the criticism:
Damn. Twerking upside down really makes the conservative, unhinged internet accounts pop off on a Monday

Since then, the Rhode Island senator seems to have turned the viral moment and debate into an opportunity for activism, promoting justice for intersex couples and transgender rights, as well as celebrating black women.
It remains unclear whether this tactic was pre-planned or whether this spin was something she improvised after the fact.

What do you think? Is this the kind of honesty and relatability you want to see more from in politicians, or is it a step too far from someone in a position of power?
