She was running late for work.
A motorist ignored traffic instructions on Sunday and attempted to drive her car through a crowd of runners during Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon because she was late for work.
The unnamed woman took a turn onto Exeter Street, despite the road having been officially closed until after the race and visibly cordoned off. One man attempts to intervene and tries to physically stop the car from entering the race route, even attempting to get into the passenger seat to prevent the woman from continuing to drive into the path of the runners.
The driver, however, refuses to stop and repeatedly tells the racers trying to intervene that “I’m going very slowly” and continues “I can’t get out…listen, I have tried to get out every which way. I have a workshop in Okehampton. I have had no information…I went very slowly.”
When a council Highways official eventually rushes over to tell her she must stop, she replies “You phone the workshop [to tell them I’ll be late].”
Fortunately nobody appears to have been hurt in the incident.
