Amy Schumer reveals joke she was ‘banned from telling at the Oscars’

Schumer said she was ‘traumatised’ by Smith’s slap, but her joke hasn’t gone down well either

Amy Schumer has revealed the one joke she was “banned from telling at the Oscars” that relates to the infamous Rust shooting.

While Oscar’s discourse was largely centered around Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, the reaction may have been different if Schumer was permitted to tell her joke.

Appearing at a show at Las Vegas’s Mirage Theatre on Saturday, Schumer, 40, admitted, “I don’t even know what to say about the Oscars.”

According to Vanity Fair, Schumer told the audience that her banned jokes were centered around divisive figures like Joe Rogan, James Franco, and Alec Baldwin.

“Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun,” she said. “I wasn’t allowed to say any of that [at the Oscars], but you can just come up and [slap] someone.”

Schumer was referencing the moment Alec Baldwin, 64, allegedly discharged a prop gun that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead on 21 October last year.

During her comedy set, the Trainwreck actress also claimed to be “traumatised” over Smith slapping Rock for a joke he made comparing Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, to “G.I Jane.”

People haven’t responded well to Schumer’s Rust joke.

“So, Amy Schumer is triggered and emotional after Slapgate, but she was willing to make jokes about Alec Baldwin killing someone,” scathed one Twitter user.

“Writing room told you not to say a s***ty joke about how Alec Baldwin killed someone on set by accident and you equate that to the slap are you deadass? @amyschumer,” another asked.

The day before Schumer remembered the infamous slap, Smith was handing in his resignation to the academy.

“My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” his statement said. The Academy has confirmed that they have accepted the resignation and will “continue to move forward” with the disciplinary process.”

“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home,” Smith said on April 1. “I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.”
