Angelina Jolie shares heartbreaking story on Instagram
Angelina Jolie has finally joined the masses on Instagram, though arguably for a better reason than sharing photos of her pets. With 5.4 million followers already, the actress and humanitarian is using her platform to promote the voices and feelings for the Afghan people.

“This is a letter I was sent from a teenage girl in Afghanistan. Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely,” she writes in the caption.
“So I’ve come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights.”
Jolie, who is best known for her immeasurable contribution to the arts, has undertaken a greater cause in recent years. In 2001, during the filming of Lara Croft, Jolie was able to gauge a unique perspective of a war-torn Cambodia. Since then, Jolie has worked in refugee camps, pushed for legislation on a child’s right to education, fought for women’s rights across the world, and aided in environmental work across the globe.
But let’s be clear, she isn’t just slapping her name on something, she is on the ground, getting her hands dirty, and truly making a difference in peoples lives.
Jolie called the manner in which the U.S. appeared to “cut and run” while “abandoning our allies and supporters in the most chaotic way imaginable, after so many years of effort and sacrifice” a “betrayal and a failure impossible to fully understand.”
“I think of injured American servicemen and women I met at Ramstein Air Base—some who’d lost limbs fighting the Taliban— who told me how proud they felt to be a part of helping the Afghan people gain basic rights and freedoms,” she wrote in TIME Magazine.
“Every Afghan girl who picked up her bookbag and went to school in the last twenty years even though she risked being killed for it—as so many were.”
Jolie wrote that as an American she is “ashamed by the manner of our leaving.”
