“We have strong but as yet unconfirmed reports that Shamima Begum’s son has died. He was a British Citizen,” a statement read
ISIS bride Shamima Begum baby has died in Syria following the British government’s decision to revoke her citizenship, her lawyer has claimed.
Begum left the country from Bethnal Green in east London to join Islamic State aged just 15. There she married a Dutch ISIS fighter, but following the death of two children, the now 19-year-old requested to return to the UK with her third baby.
Her son was born on 17 February.
Shamima’s lawyer Mohammed Akunjee said: “We have strong but as yet unconfirmed reports that Shamima Begum’s son has died. He was a British Citizen.”
Home secretary Sajid Javid responded to Begum’s request to return to the country by stripping her of her UK citizenship, a decision which has prompted her family to consider legal action.
Shamima’s lawyer confirmed last week that “due to safety concerns around her and her baby” had been moved from the Al-Hol refugee camp in the north of the country where she had been stationed.
