Met Police have opened a murder investigation

A man stabbed to death in Kensington and Chelsea had refused to hand money over to a group of youths, a resident said today.

Police were called at approximately 10.21pm to reports of a stabbing on Cathcart Road, Kensington.

Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was found with multiple stab wounds.

Despite the best efforts of the medical teams, he died at the scene shortly after 11pm.

His next of kin have been informed, although formal identification awaits, and a post-mortem will take place in due course.

A murder investigation has been opened and detectives from the homicide and major crime command are investigating.

A crime scene remains in place.

Actress Mika Simmons, who has appeared in Casualty ITV drama Unforgotten, wrote on Twitter: “I’ve been told he was working as a delivery driver [and] refused to give some other youths some money.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said in a statement that he was “deeply saddened to learn of the fatal stabbing of a man in Kensington last night and my thoughts are with his friends and family.”

He added: “The police are doing everything in their power to bring those responsible to justice.”

Kensington MP Emma Dent Coad said she was: “devastated to hear of another life lost on the street in Kensington.”

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating. A crime scene remains in place.”
