Bastian Schweinsteiger was absolutely mobbed when he arrived in Chicago

Paul Moore

That’s some welcome party for the former Bayern Munich and Manchester United man.

For Manchester united fans, Bastian Schweinsteiger’s departure from Old Trafford is almost like a very amicable breakup with a former partner that you genuinely care about, but you know that it’s best for all parties.

In dating parlance, the World Cup winner was like the girl that you always fancied and secretly wished to be with, but when the moment arrived, it just didn’t live up to expectations.

Are we reading too much into this? Yeah, yeah we are.

This being said, there will always be respect and admiration for Basti from the red half of Manchester because despite his limited time on the pitch, he didn’t throw his toys out of the pram and openly pine for a move.

The World Cup winner has now left Manchester United for Chicago Fire, and a reported pay packet of $86,500 a week.

In truth, Schweinsteiger’s  days were numbered from the moment Jose Mourinho became manager, but it appears that the Chicago Fire fans have plenty of faith in their new signing.

Here’s hoping that his career enjoys a resurgence in the MLS.  Take a look at these scenes.

Still though, it’s not as impressive as the turnout for Darius Vassell when he signed for Ankaragücü. That was insane.
