Edwards was a huge Chelsea fan throughout his life, born in Luton and growing up in Acton, West London. The 31-year-old received his MBE when he was just 23-years-old.
His mother, Brenda issued a statement announced on Good Morning Britain confirming that the cause of death was “sudden illness”, though further details of the exact nature are yet to be confirmed.
A wonderful man taken from us far too soon. Rest in peace Jamal Edwards. An inspiration, a good friend, Proper Chels. There needs to be something organised for Luton vs Chelsea on March 2nd in FA Cup. The Jamal Edwards cup tie ⚽️💙 Live on my brother! pic.twitter.com/C82WQIgaGa
