Odds tumble on Danny Rose leaving Tottenham for Wolves

Simon Lloyd

But first, three questions…

Is Danny Rose Portuguese?

Does his name sound even slightly Portuguese?

Is Jorge Mendes his agent?

The answer to all of those questions is, of course, ‘no’.

Yet despite all this, talk of the Tottenham left-back agreeing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers has been doing the rounds on Twitter on Monday. What exactly prompted it is unclear, but it’s now been noticed that the odds on such a transfer being completed have tumbled dramatically. At the time of writing, some bookies have it down as being just 3/1, as some have pointed out…

Rose has been linked with a move away from Spurs for most of the last year, especially after giving an explosive interview last summer in which he made clear he wanted to win trophies and was open to a move if the opportunity presented itself.

“I am reaching my peak and have probably only got one big contract left in me,” he’d said. “Time is running out and I do want to win trophies. I don’t want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or one medal.”

Since the interview, Rose has repeatedly been linked with a move to Manchester United who were thought to be looking to offload Luke Shaw. Despite the speculation, it now seems Shaw is set to remain at Old Trafford and contest the left-back slot with Ashley Young over the season ahead, meaning any hopes Rose might have had of moving to United have died.
