Darren Till has ensured that his first fight in Liverpool will go ahead as planned.
A family emergency meant that Till failed to make the 171lbs weight limit on Saturday morning and his main event clash with Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was immediately plunged into jeopardy.
After weighing in at 174.5lbs 20 minutes after the official early weigh-in window, Till had to do some negotiating to make sure that his fight went ahead.
The undefeated Scouser claims he offered Thompson his entire fight purse to make sure the bout took place but, in the end, it was decided that Till will forfeit 30 per cent of his earnings to Thompson.
One stipulation remained, however, as Till had to weigh in no more than 188lbs at 1pm on Sunday.
Before getting on the bus to the arena, Till made sure that he didn’t overdo his rehydration by hitting the scales at 187.3lbs.
Reporters were not allowed to be present when Till took to the scales on Sunday afternoon but Thompson’s camp was permitted to be there to confirm Till’s weight on fight day.
A huge welterweight, Till admitted to JOE on Friday that he started his camp at 205lbs before he began the weight-cutting process.
Media wasn’t allowed in the room when Darren Till weighed in, however, here’s a pic of the scale provided to me by a source who was in the room. As you can see, 187.3 pounds. Crisis averted. pic.twitter.com/c1mkXoncWw
