Gonzalo Higuain scores stunning free-kick for first MLS goal

Up and running

River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea (yes, we’d also nearly forgotten he played for Chelsea). Wherever Gonzalo Higuain has played, Gonzalo Higuain has scored goals.

Now, in his third appearance in Major League Soccer – and a matter of days on from his eventful debut – the Argentine is off the mark for his latest club, Inter Miami.

The 32-year-old smashed home a powerful 81st-minute free-kick away at New York Red Bulls which proved to be the winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

Having won the free-kick, Higuain rifled the ball into the top corner and beyond David Jensen – despite the Red Bulls goalkeeper appearing to take up a decent enough starting position to deal with it.

Incredibly, of all the many goals Higuain has scored over the years, this was the first time he had found the net from a direct free-kick.

Not bad, eh? Certainly a lot better than missing a penalty and being involved in a poor reenactment of Van Nistelrooy vs Arsenal, 2003.
