A statue of David Silva will be built outside Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, the club have announced.

Silva leaves Man City this year after 10 years at the club, winning four league titles in that time. He will be remembered as one of the greatest players ever to wear a City shirt and to play in the Premier League.

Chairman of the City Football Group, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak made the announcement on Monday afternoon, saying “if anyone deserves a statue, it’s David.”

The club will work closely with Silva on designing the statue that will immortalise the Spaniard outside the club’s stadium.

There will also be a training pitch named after Silva at the academy’s training complex, something Yaya Touré was also honoured with when he departed the club in 2018 after eight years.

Another City legend, Vincent Kompany, announced his retirement from football this morning to move into management full time. He will take charge of his first and last club as a player, Anderlecht for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

Kompany is also going to be cast in bronze outside the Etihad, with the construction of his statue already underway.
