Nicky Butt has reportedly been arrested for a domestic incident
The Daily Mail has reported that Butt, United’s current head of academy, was held by police on Tuesday afternoon and remained in custody while his former team finalised their preparations for their Champions League quarter-final second leg clash with Barcelona.
Manchester United declined to comment at this time but a statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “A 44–year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.”
The news comes just hours after Butt’s former United teammate Paul Scholes was charged with misconduct by the Football Association for an alleged breach of betting rules.
It’s alleged that Scholes placed 140 bets on football matches, contrary to FA Rule E8, between 17 August 2015 and 12 January 2019.
Scholes, who most recently managed Oldham Athletic for just over a month, has until 26 April 2019 to respond to the charge.
