United would not stand in his way
Paul Pogba reportedly wants out of Manchester United and has told teammates he intends to leave this summer.
The French midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford during last summer after rumours of a falling out with Jose Mourinho.
Though such speculation died down following the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last December, United’s recent downturn in form has seen more reports suggest the World Cup-winner could move on.
The latest claims come from L’Equipe, who say Pogba’s concerns about a lack of Champions League football next season could see him depart United for a second time.
Real Madrid is seen as a possible destination for the 26-year-old. The dethroned European champions were said to be interested in signing Pogba before he re-joined United from Juventus in 2016, and with the reappointed Zinedine Zidane plotting a summer overhaul at the Bernabeu, it’s thought he could be set for the Spanish capital.
Interestingly, the report also adds that United – who are also thought to be planning significant changes to their own squad over the summer – would not be opposed to him leaving if Real made an offer.
This isn’t the first time of late that reports from France have claimed Pogba could soon leave United. Only last week, the French press claimed his relationship with Solskjaer has broken down.
Pogba issued an apology to United’s supporters this week after their humiliating 4-0 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The defeat severely damages United’s hopes of finishing the season in the top four ahead of Wednesday night’s derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford.
