People are saying the same thing about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the Slovakia match

To be expected.

Following his deadline day move to Liverpool, former Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was back in London as he started for England in their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

After making the worst possible start, England struck back before half time thanks to Eric Dier’s brilliant finish from Marcus Rashford’s low corner.

The Manchester United attacker then turned from provider to scorer as his low shot fizzed past the Slovakia ‘keeper to give England the lead on 59 minutes.

The 2-1 win now means that England are in a commanding position with only two games left to play in the group.

Southgate’s men are now five points clear of Slovakia, and with Slovenia (H) and Lithuania (A) to come, qualification for Russia is all but secured.

Earlier this week, Gary Neville said that “If you said to me a year ago, or six months ago, you would get £40m for Oxlade-Chamberlain, I would’ve snapped your hand off,” and Gunners fans were immensely happy with one particular moment during the first half at Wembley.

As England looked to strike back from Stanislav Lobotka’s opener, Oxlade-Chamberlain burst down the left-hand side. With Dele Alli and Harry Kane in front of him, he decided to shoot.

It really wasn’t good.

Given the fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain has only recently moved, he was always going to be under the spotlight tonight, but Arsenal fans took great pleasure in seeing this woeful effort sail harmlessly over the bar.

Liverpool fans probably don’t care.

The only thing that matters to them is that their new signing delivers once he’s wearing their shirt. This being said, the Anfield faithful will be hoping to see better than this.
