Love, shmove. Give us a day off!
Yeah, it’s nice to see two people that love each other. We’re all very happy to welcome into the Royal family. We’re certain that there’s going to be endless TV coverage, articles, newspapers, magazines covering the wedding.
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
What about a day off?
After all, when Kate Middleton and Prince William tied the knot in 2011, the British public was given a bonus bank holiday.
Truth be told, a bank holiday was all that the British public was thinking about when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has supported a day off work by saying that the public could “do with being cheered up”, arguing that the benefits of tourists arriving into London and the UK would merit a day off.
Despite the public demand for a bank holiday, Downing Street has said there were “no plans” to mark the wedding with a bank holiday.
Theresa May was recently asked by a journalist if a bank holiday would “cheer up” Britain and the Prime Minister gave her answer.
She feels that simply seeing how happy Prince Harry and his new wife will be on their big day is enough to cheer about.
She said: “You talk about cheering people up – actually I think seeing two young people in love [will cheer people up] – two people who are obviously in love,” before adding “I wish them great happiness for the future. And I think the country is delighted to see this engagement and collectively we wish them all the very best.”
Yeah, we’re delighted…but give us a day off.
