Tragic news coming from America.
The LAPD responded to a 911 call made at 8.55am local time, following reports of shots fired at Sal Castro Middle School in Los Angeles. The gunfire came from a classroom at the school in the Westlake neighborhood shortly after the opening bell and caused numerous students to run from the area, according to Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison.
According to NBC News, a 12-year-old female student has been taken into custody and may be considered a suspect in the shooting.
There are two shooting victims reported so far, with a 15-year-old boy suffering a critical head wound, and a 15-year-old girl was shot in the wrist and is said to be in a fair condition.
Another three people – aged between 11 and 30 – are reported to injured in peripheral circumstances, most likely in connection to attempting to escape the scene of the shooting.
According to NPR, there were 11 separate school shootings reported in America in the month of January this year along, and February 1 sees the year’s 12th school shooting taking place.
