The app was removed for containing ‘objectionable content’
Apple has removed Alex Jones from the App Store, the final nail in his content coffin after the tech giant also purged its podcast player of InfoWars broadcasts.
In the last month, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter also removed the conspiracy theorist from their platforms.
Jones had been directing his fans toward the InfoWars website and app to listen to his show, which he used to pedal bizarre propaganda, before it was removed by Apple for violating rules on “objectionable content.”
The company said Jones broke guidelines relating to “defamatory, discriminatory, or mean-spirited content, including references or commentary about religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, national/ethnic origin, or other targeted groups, particularly if the app is likely to humiliate, intimidate, or place a targeted individual or group in harm’s way.”
On the show the right wing broadcaster had argued that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax – the most offensive of a string of baseless theories.
Apple’s ban does not affect users who had already downloaded the InfoWars app.
After Twitter removed Jones from its platform on Thursday he said in a video: “I was taken down not because we lied but because we tell the truth and because we were popular.”
