People on social media were not all happy about the change
In a move that provoked a massive outcry from angry users, on Thursday Instagram changed its app so that users scroll from side-to-side rather than up and down.
Users across the globe reported experiencing the change. “Introducing a new way to move through posts,” a pop-up message introducing the new feature read. “Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories.”
However, Instagram has now confirmed that the switch was only temporary, and everything is back to normal now.
An Instagram spokeperson told BuzzFeed News that it “was caused by a bug that we quickly fixed.”
“Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today,” the spokesperson said. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.”
Rumours about the proposed move circulated earlier this year after a leak in October, though it had been believed the feature would be limited to the Explore tab.
“We’re always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love,” a spokesperson told TechCrunch at the time.
Many social media users were not happy about the abrupt change and took to Twitter to voice their complaints.
