Two British soldiers have reportedly been seriously injured during an Isis missile attack in Syria.
The attack is said to have happened on Saturday morning, close to the town of Deir al-Zour in the east of the war-torn country. The two soldiers are, according to a report by the BBC, believed to be part of the army’s special forces and were airlifted from the scene of the attack by US forces.
Local media has also claimed that the same attack claimed the life of another man, believed to be fighting for the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).
The Ministry of Defence has not commented on the reports and has not confirmed whether any special forces troops are currently operating within Syria.
“We do not comment on special forces,” the MOD said.
The UK has formed part of the US-led coalition carrying out air strikes against Isis in Syria, where there are approximately 2,000 US troops.
In December, US President Donald Trump said he was withdrawing troops from Syria, claiming “we have defeated Isis in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump presidency.”
The move was criticised by UK government who said: “much remains to be done.”
