‘Those coffin-dodging idiots who voted for Brexit have just screwed it all up,’ Clarkson said.
Jeremy Clarkson has launched a two-pronged attack on young and old alike over Brexit, describing those who wanted to leave the EU as “coffin-dodging idiots” while also blaming the young for “not getting up” to vote for Remain.
Although ‘Captain Commonsense’ Clarkson, might seem like a spiritual king for Brexiteers, he is actually a card holding member of the metropolitan elite, having voted Remain in 2016.
Speaking to LBCÂ in the wake of brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, Ford and Honda announcing they are cutting jobs in the UK, the 58-year-old didn’t hold back in his opinion of the UK leaving the European Union.
“Those coffin-dodging idiots who voted for Brexit have just screwed it all up,” he said. “Alright, we may lose a car or two but think how many thousands of people are going to have their livelihoods absolutely ruined by car firms understandably moving their factories to Slovakia and wherever else.”
Perhaps fearing his remark might have failed to appeal to his usual gammon-y target audience, he then found a way to blame Brexit on the young when he was later asked if he was worried about the future of Britain.
“Of course, there’s nobody in Britain today who isn’t worried.” he replied. “I’ve got three children in their early 20s and you look at their life and think ‘why did you not get up and vote?’
“None of them did, nobody under 25 got up and voted otherwise we’d be Remaining!”
Polling data has previously found that turnout for 18-24-year-olds was 64 per cent, almost double the initial figure first forecast, but, let’s face it, it’s not like Jeremy to let things like stats get in the way of old fashioned ‘common sense’ opinion.
Clarkson was speaking ahead of the return of The Grand Tour to Prime Video on 18 January.
