Boris Johnson could be invited to dinner with US president Donald Trump during his state visit to the UK in June.
Trump is due to visit from June 3-5 and is eager to meet Johnson The Sunday Times reports, quoting friends of the president.
The state visit is part of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, during which it’s suggested the American delegation is considering hosting a private dinner party at the US ambassador’s residence, Winfield House.
Trump has previously described Johnson as a “friend,” as well as a potentially “great prime minister,” and hosted Nigel Farage. Sources allege both could be on the guestlist for Trump’s arrival.
Jeremy Corbyn, John Bercow and Vince Cable have all said they will not attend the state banquet at Buckingham Palace put on for the president.
A government source told the Times: “There are fears within government circles about any potential meeting with Boris Johnson so the timetable is being scrutinised to limit the opportunities he has to do his own thing.”
