Capitol Hill was stormed by Trump supporters on Wednesday
US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has announced that she is preparing Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump, following violent scenes in Capitol Hill on Wednesday night.
Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington DC, attacking police in the process.
The US Congress was in the process of certifying Joe Biden’s election win, but the sitting was suspended as members of Congress were evacuated from the building.
Since Joe Biden was projected winner of the US presidential election on November 7th, incumbent President Donald Trump (and his supporters) have doubted the legitimacy of the election. No evidence of wrongdoing has ever been uncovered, but it is a claim they persist with today.

Following the violent scenes, Ilhan Omar posted on Twitter that she was launching proceedings of impeachment against Trump.
“I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment,” tweeted the Democrat representative for Minnesota’s 5th district.
“Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.
“We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfil our oath.”

She followed up her announcement with a defiant pledge that “democracy will prevail.”
“We will not let our Constitution be trampled on by a mob and threaten by a tyrant,” she tweeted.
Rest assured, this day will not end without us finishing the work Congress is supposed to carry out.
We will not let our Constitution be trampled on by a mob and threaten by a tyrant.
