Cohen said Trump instigated an act of domestic terrorism
Sacha Baron Cohen has called for president Donald Trump to be banned from social media permanently following the violence that occurred in Washington DC on Wednesday.
Trump supporters stormed into the Capitol building as Congress was in the process of certifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Senior politicians on both sides of the divide in America have called for Trump to be impeached, and levelled accusations at the outgoing president for using his social media accounts to instigate the attack.
Trump’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts were all suspended after the rampage on the Capitol, but only temporarily.
Twitter locked his account for 12 hours, while Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg said on Thursday that Trump’s ban would last for at least two weeks, at which point his presidency will finally end.
Several public figures, including Cohen, have said this is not enough, and he must be banned from social media platforms permanently, after inciting “an act of domestic terrorism against America.”
“Facebook and Twitter giving Trump a little time out is NOT ENOUGH,” the Borat star tweeted.
“Trump instigated an act of domestic terrorism against America.
“Facebook and Twitter have banned other extremists PERMANENTLY.
“They must ban Trump PERMANENTLY. NOW!”
He then finished the tweet with a hashtag, #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy.
