Just as we learn hiring strippers for funerals is a ‘thing’ in China, the authorities decide to put a stop to it. Boo.
The Chinese Ministry of Culture issued a statement this week confirming that they plan to work with the police to stamp out strippers at funerals.
‘Such acts are uncivilised,’ said the statement, adding that anyone caught even thinking about taking their clothes off in front of the coffin would be ‘severely punished’.
Strippers are often hired in rural areas to try and ensure a high turnout at funerals to honour dead relatives.
It’s also a popular practice in Taiwan, as you can see here.
