The former senior advisor says Tory MPs should ensure his swift removal from post
The prime minister’s former senior advisor Dominic Cummings has accused Boris Johnson of lying to parliament over a drinks event held on May 20 in Downing Street.
Boris Johnson claimed at Prime Minister’s Questions that the gathering, organised by his own secretary, Martin Reynolds via email, was a “work event” that he attended for 25 minutes.
But in an explosive blog published on Monday evening, Johnson’s former advisor claimed the Prime Minister was well aware he was attending a party, and had been advised to quash the event before it was allowed to take place.
In the blog, Cummings said he warned Martin Reynolds that the party would break the covid restrictions and worked on convincing him to cancel it altogether.
When Reynolds declined, he sought the help of the prime minister, begging him to get “a grip of this madhouse”. Cummings claims the PM “waved it aside”.
The former advisor later claimed there are many other photos of parties yet to appear, and that himself and multiple other eyewitnesses “would swear under oath” his account of events is correct.
Dominic Cummings, a now vocal critic of the prime minister, has advised Tory MPs to ensure the swift removal of Boris Johnson from post, arguing “chaos will continue until he is removed”.
