We’re getting two hours extra in the pub this weekend to watch the Euros thanks to The Queen

Cheers Lizzie

England and Wales kick off their Euro 2016 campaigns this weekend and The Queen is giving us a little treat to celebrate.

Kind of. As part of the Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrations this weekend (we’ve explained here as to why she gets two birthdays) pub hours will be extended on both Friday 10 June and Saturday 11 June.

For both days pubs will be allowed to be open for two more hours, serving drinks until 1am.

Extended pub hours will serve as a part of a number of events to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday on the June weekend.

There will be a street party in The Mall, a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral and the Queen’s Birthday Parade, at the Horse Guards Parade.

So while *technically* the celebrations have nothing to do with the football that’s on this weekend, we secretly think Queen Elizabeth wanted to treat us all with a weekend to remember, as we ready ourselves for England and Wales’ first games of Euro 2016.

Remember, The Queen is supposed to be a secret Arsenal fan, maybe she wants a few hours off enjoying some cold ones with her family watching the football too.

Here’s hoping those extra hours in the pub can be spent celebrating England and Wales wins, rather than drowning your sorrows eh?
