The White House has returned to normal operations after a three-hour lockdown this evening.

CBS reports that the US president’s residence was placed under immediate lockdown when “a person threw a metal object over the fence on the north side of the complex”.

Members of the Secret Service immediately apprehended the individual.

The incident happened at around 12:15pm (local time) and emergency services attended the scene.

Tests of the objects showed “negative results” and people, including media who were at the building during the lockdown, have since been permitted to leave.
