The alleged member of the ‘Ndrangheta mafia was identified by his tattoos
An Italian mafia fugitive has been caught by police in the Dominican Republic after being identified by his tattoos on his cooking videos on YouTube.
Marc Feren Claude Biart was living a quiet life in Boca Chica in the southern part of the Dominican Republic, with local Italian expats referring to him as a “foreigner”, police said.
While his face never appeared on the cooking videos, his distinctive tattoos led police to be able to identify him as an alleged member of the ’Ndrangheta mafia.
Biart was arrested in Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic last week, after being on the run since 2014.
The 53-year-old suspect is wanted in Italy for the trafficking of cocaine in the Netherlands on behalf of the ’Ndrangheta crime syndicate, one of most powerful crime syndicates in the world.
Police confirmed the 53-year-old man’s arrest in a statement yesterday.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Biart was discovered through his Italian cookery channel on YouTube, which he contributed to with his wife.
His arrest comes after Italy’s largest mafia trial in 30 years took place in January 2021. A former call centre was temporarily converted into a huge courtroom in order to seat over 350 alleged members of the ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate, it has been reported.
