A prong of the three-forked gardening tool pierced Stephen Ballamy’s brain

Shocking CCTV shows the moment a killer armed with a spiked garden tool runs up behind his victim before plunging it into his head.

Stephen Bellamy died in hospital two days after he was stabbed by Stephen Beach in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, in April, during a “brutal and cowardly crime” that saw a spike enter the 33-year-old’s brain.

Beach, 40, and his getaway driver Luke Teague, 39, fled the scene following the attack which happened after Beach got into an argument with the victim on April 24.

Chilling camera footage released by Humberside Police shows the moment Beach gets out of a car and jogs down the street after Bellamy who is walking alongside a woman.

Beach can be seen carrying the long-handled tool like a javelin as he approaches Bellamy.

Seconds later, off-camera, Beach plunges the three-forked gardening tool into Bellamy’s head.

Bellamy was rushed to hospital but died two days later.

Beach and Teague fled the scene in the car which was later abandoned and burned out the car in remote countryside.

The pair denied murder but were both found guilty on Tuesday after a seven-day trial at Hull Crown Court.

Speaking after the verdict, Detective Superintendent Christine Calvert, of Humberside Police, applauded the “courage and strength” the Bellamy family had shown throughout the investigation and trial.

He added: “This was a brutal and cowardly crime carried out by Beach and Teague and it will have understandably shocked and saddened the community.

“I hope these individuals are now facing a significant prison sentence, and this goes some way to providing closure for Stephen’s family, and offers reassurance to the community that the pair cannot cause any further harm.”

Beach and Teague are due to be sentenced on 13 January.
