Wonder where they got the idea for that from?
So there’s this video game called Fortnite, right. Maybe you’ve heard of it. It’s pretty popular. Even Dele Ali and Drake play it.
If somehow you don’t know about it – or you’re just old – it is an online battle royale game where 100 players are dropped into a map, and shoot it out until only one is left victorious. Along with the similarly-themed PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, it has made battle royale shooters arguably the most popular genre of game over the last six months or so.
Both Fortnite and PUBG are relatively small titles that have made it big, especially when compared to the heavy hitters like Call of Duty and Overwatch. And it felt like it was only a matter of time before the big publishers ‘borrowed’ the battle royale mode for their big franchises.
It has already been announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have one, entitled ‘Blackout’. And now another of the big boys have said they’re doing the same. At EA Play, EA’s big pre-E3 press conference, they revealed that the upcoming Battlefield V will have a battle royale option too.

Of course, they promise it’ll be more than just a Fortnite rip-off. Lars Gustavsson, creative director of develop DICE, said it would be “royale, reimagined for Battlefield,” and promised it “will bring you an experience you haven’t played before”.
#Battlefield / Officially confirmed today at #EAPlay2018, #BattlefieldV will feature a Battle Royale mode. More details are coming this year and it sounds like we will receive this mode after the initial launch of the game. pic.twitter.com/qBd7EEkhEk

EA said they will reveal more about the mode later in the year, and we don’t know if it will be available at launch.
Notably, it looks neither the Call of Duty or Battlefield battle royales will be free stand alone downloads, which will mean Fortnite will still have an advantage in that regard. Also, as far as we as know, CoD and Battlefield won’t feature flossing of milly rocking. Still, Antoine Griezmann’s interest is believed to have piqued.
