The caster, streamer and former Esports pro has sadly passed away

The Esports caster, Twitch streamer and former professional player Michael Stockley, known in the gaming community as ‘KiXSTAr‘, has sadly died aged just 24.

KiXSTAr, who made his name as a professional Esports player on the hugely popular first-person shooter Rainbow Six Siege, suddenly passed away on Monday October 11.

On Wednesday (October 13), former casting partner Parker Mackay shared the following statement from Stockley’s family.

He and KiXSTAr had worked together for a number of years and as his pinned tweet from February 2020 reads: “KiX took a chance on me when he didn’t need to. I was casting to 100 people yet he put his reputation and name on the line to get me a shot in Pro League. I’ll never forget it. I’ll always support you, Michael. Thanks for trusting me.”

As his mother Carol explains in the emotional post, the cause of KiXSTAr’s death was initially unknown. However, Mackay since relayed the details that he had died “doing what he loved second-most in this world: driving” – adding that it was an accident and that “no one else was injured or involved”.

Although his entire family are obviously heartbroken, she focused on how proud they were of his achievements and thanked the entire R6 community for helping “lift[ing] him up” and “for the all the love and support we have experienced”.

In addition to expressing how excited he was to work with more of his peers in the future, she rounded out the statement by urging his fans and those in the community to “keep it going, pay it forward, and keep lifting each other up”.

Naturally, the official Rainbow Six Esports league also tweeted their heartfelt condolences to Stockley’s family, friends and followers, recognising him as “one of the bright lights” in the community. As well as postponing a round of fixtures and the accompanying broadcast, they are urging others to join the Stockley family in sending donations to a local food bank in his name.

Rest in peace, KiX.
