Sony has already trademarked PlayStation 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

The PlayStation 5 is not even out yet

Sony has published the trademark for the PlayStation 6. But that is not all – they have also trademarked the names for potentially the next five generations of gaming.

They have filed five new trademarks in all in Japan, coving PlayStations 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Bear in mind that the PlayStation 5 does not come out until next month, on November 12th.

The trademarks were noticed by blogger Pierceworld, and picked up by Gematsu.

This is pretty standard practice for Sony. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 were both trademarked in 2006, with the PS4 released in 2013, and PS5 coming out in 2020.

By that logic, could we expect the PlayStation 6 in about 2027?

The PS2 was trademarked in 1999 and released in 2000, and the PS3 was trademarked in 2005 and released in 2006.

Of course, this does not mean any of these new machines are actually in development – it is more about Sony staking a claim to those names so that nobody else bags them before them.

Still, we do look forward to playing PlayStation 10 with our grandkids in 2055.

The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th in the US and Japan, and a week later on November 19th in the UK.

Launch titles to look forward to include Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the follow up to hit PlayStation exclusive super hero game, where you play as Miles instead of Peter Parker; the remake of cult favourite Demon Souls; and the latest Assassin’s Creed game, Valhalla.

There are also the standard sports and racing franchises, and the games you would expect to be on every system, like FIFA21, Dirt 5, and Fortnite.

Upcoming first-party titles include Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and a new God of War game.

Other big exclusives to keep an eye on are Final Fantasy XVI, third-person shooter Returnal, and scary looking first-person horror title Ghostwire: Tokyo
