Prepare to get nostalgic

Nintendo have announced that three classic Super Mario games are finally going to be available on the Switch.

Super Mario 3D All Stars will include three beloved Mario titles: Super Mario 64Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. The collection will be released on September 18th.

Mario 64 was originally a launch title for the N64, Sunshine was on the GameCube, and Galaxy was on the Wii.

Sadly, the sequel to Galaxy, which was also on the Wii, does not seem to be included.

If you want to play these games again – or experience them for the first time – you’ll have to be quick. The release will only be available digitally for a limited time, up until March 31st, 2021. There will also be a physical release, but expect that to sell out quickly and go for a load of cash on eBay.

The release is particularly notable as this will be the first time that Sunshine has been re-released since the Gamecube. Galaxy was released on the Wii U eShop, and Super Mario 64 has been made available on several other platforms, including the Nintendo DS and Virtual Console.

All three games will include updated HD graphics and improved picture resolution” and will be optimised for Nintendo Switch with updated Joy-Con controls, including rumble features. You will also be able to use the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers to mimic the original Wii Remote motion controls when playing Super Mario Galaxy.

Three soundtracks with over 170 tracks from all three titles are also included.

Mario 64 was in June 1996 and was the Nintendo mascot’s first venture into the third dimension. It remains a milestone in video game history and one of the best-reviewed games of all time.

Sunshine followed in July 2002, and saw Mario cleaning up graffiti with a fancy new water cannon gimmick. Galaxy hit the Wii in 2007, followed by Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 2010.
