A 14-year-old has been charged with the murder of Logan Mwangi, 5, whose body was found in a river in late July.

The body of 5-year-old Logan Mwangi was pulled from Ogmore River near Pandy Park on Saturday, July 31. The boy had been reported missing at 5:45 am that day shortly after neighbours heard his mother frantically calling for him, reports the Mirror.

The alleged attacker has not been named due to his status as a minor, but it has been confirmed he is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates court later, South Wales Police have stated.

Upon the discovery of his body, Logan was taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital, where he was confirmed dead, reports Sky News.

According to Sky News, Logan is believed to have suffered from a torn liver, an internal injury to the back of his head, and a broken collarbone.

Logan’s stepfather, John Cole of Bridgend, 39, has previously appeared in court to be charged with Logan’s murder and preventing the course of justice.

His mother, 30-year-old Angharad Williamson of Sarn, has also been charged with preventing the course of justice.

The duo is due to go to trial next year.

Family friends have paid tribute to Logan on Facebook.

“He was a beautiful boy. He was kind, funny, polite, handsome and clever. He is loved unconditionally and has unfortunately lost his life,” wrote one family friend.

Another wrote: “Logan was the cutest kid, always smiling and a real bundle of energy.

“Everyone is in a complete state of shock, we just can’t make sense of what has happened.”
