The video of the lap dance went viral
A newly-recruited NYPD officer who went viral earlier this month after a video of her giving a lap dance to a superior officer has apologised to the officer’s wife.
Vera Mekuli has apologised to the wife of Lieutenant Nick McGarry for the lap dance, saying she has not left the house since the video hit the headlines.
Mekuli told TMZ, “I want to apologise the lieutenant’s wife, you know, I am sorry, truly I am. I hope it didn’t cause too much damage in the marriage or in your personal life. I know it’s been rough, It wasn’t meant to be like this, I really had no knowledge of your marriage.”
She also claims the reaction to the story has been laced with misogyny and says the reaction would not have been the same had she been a man.
She claims that if she were a man the matter would’ve been handled ‘in-house’ and the reaction would have been more ‘jokey’.

Since the video surfaced, McGarry has been placed on transit duty, but no further disciplinary action has been pursued by the NYPD.
