One of many shows now carrying the label.
Several episodes of Only Fools and Horses have been branded with a racism warning on streaming service BritBox.
Having initially added the classic show to its service in honour of its 40th anniversary, the owners of Britbox ITV and the BBC have now put warnings on numerous episodes.
The episodes have been said to contain “offensive racial language”.
One episode now subject to the warning is season one’s The Russians Are Coming, reports the Express. The episode sees the beloved characters building a nuclear fallout shouter. In one scene, Grandad uses a racial slur to describe a shop.
Season two’s The Yellow Peril has also been highlighted due to its portrayal of the East Asian community being a threat to the west.
Shows like Little Britain have been criticised for their depiction of race, and it seems apparent that the BBC and ITV are casting their gaze back even further. Episodes of Coronation Street and Vicar of Dibley have also been stamped with the labels.
Before clicking on these episodes, viewers are now warned with a statement reading: “Contains some offensive racial language of the time.”
“Programming on the service that contains potentially sensitive language or attitudes of their era have carried appropriate warnings since our launch in November 2019 to ensure the right guidance is in place for viewers who are choosing to watch on-demand,” Britbox said in a statement.
