Despite the fact that the worst effects of Storm Elanor have passed, temperatures are set to plummet this weekend with heavy rain and gale-force winds approaching. In fact, in parts of Scotland, the temperature is expected set to drop as low as -10C on Saturday night.

Keep warm because of 6C in northern England and -3C in the south.

At present, there’s a yellow weather warning in place for the following areas; Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North East England, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde.

The warning is in effect from Fri 17:00 and Sat 10:00 and the Met Office warn that: “Icy patches are expected to develop during the evening and overnight, most likely on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths. There is a chance that injuries could occur from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”

The winds are expected to ease but large parts of the country will remain at risk of flooding for several days, warned the Environment Agency, following persistent rain.
