Following Theresa May’s announcement that she will step down as prime minister on June 7, almost half the UK believe the next prime minister should call a general election, according to a YouGov poll.
46 per cent of respondents said they believe whoever the next person to lead the Conservatives is should call a general election, while 34 per cent said they should serve in office until 2022. The remaining 20 per cent of people asked said they don’t know.
The same people were asked to evaluate May’s time in number 10, with the most popular response being ‘terrible’ at 31 per cent.
Just two per cent of people asked said she had been a great prime minister, while 17 per cent said she’d been ‘good’.
Boris Johnson is favourite to take over from Theresa May. It is a position he has long sought, but has not yet reached due to various episodes of buffoonery making even Tories think he’s probably not fit to lead the party and country.
But here we are, almost three years after the EU referendum, trying to find someone to steer the sinking ship.
