Women had gathered to pay their respects
Four people were arrested on Saturday evening at Clapham Common during an unofficial vigil for Sarah Everard.
To mourn the horrific death of 33-year-old Everard, who was abducted and killed last week, women gathered in large numbers to pay their respects and peacefully demonstrate in solidarity.
The official vigil, planned by Reclaim These Streets, had been cancelled after police could not come to an agreement with the organisers, who then urged people to stay home after being threatened with £10k fines.
Four people were arrested amid the clashes with police, who were filmed aggressively handling peaceful protestors.

We were legal observing for @blkprotestlegal this evening & the level of police violence was immense. They threatened @g__ferris & I with arrest + violently arrested 3 young women. People came here to remember the lives lost to male & police violence, and ended up subjected to it https://t.co/nUeeqxURkm

Lambeth police tweeted at 7:21pm: “The gathering is unsafe. Hundreds of people are tightly packed together in breach of the regulations and risking public health.
“We are urging people to go home and we thank those who have been engaging with officers and who are leaving.”
