Caitlyn Jenner has voiced her support for Dave Chappelle in the ongoing controversy over comments he made in his Netflix special about the trans community.

Chappelle caused controversy with the release of his special The Closer by claiming in the show that “gender is a fact” and calling himself a “terf”, a term which stands for trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

In The Closer he said: “They canceled J.K. Rowling – my God.

“Effectively, she said gender was a fact, the trans community got mad as shit, they started calling her a TERF.

“I’m team TERF. I agree. I agree, man. Gender is a fact.”

Amid the anger at his comments, Netflix employees organised a walkout over the platform’s decision to air the special.

He recently released a clip from a stand up show after the backlash to the special, in which he hits back at the criticism he faced, saying that he will not be “bending to anybody’s demands.”

Now, Caitlyn Jenner, one of the most famous trans figures in the world has come out in support of the comedian.

Quote tweeting the recent stand up clip from Chappelle, she wrote: “Dave Chappelle is 100% right. This isn’t about the LGBTQ movement. It’s about woke cancel culture run amok, trying to silence free speech.

“We must never yield or bow to those who wish to stop us from speaking our minds.”

There had been reports that Netflix employees were suspended for their criticism of the special but Netflix bosses have said this was not the case and they were in fact suspended for crashing a senior staff meeting.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Executive Officer, has apologised for his handling of the internal dissent though, saying: “I screwed up.”
