An Australian television crew claim they have made a ‘major’ breakthrough in the case of missing toddler Madeleine McCann.
The news was released in a 40-second teaser for the current affairs show Sunday Night, promising a “landmark television event” to be broadcast on Australia’s Channel 7.
The clip suggests that forensic scientist Dave Barclay, journalist Rahni Sadler and US criminal profiler Pat Brown will appear in the programme, which will feature a reconstruction of the night Madeleine disappeared and will air this weekend.
Brown, the author of a book on the case, has previously told the media he believes the child was not abducted and died in her family’s rented apartment in Portugal.
Now Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, who refused to respond to the claims, have reportedly asked the researchers to hand over any evidence that may help them trace their daughter, who vanished from her bedroom at a Praia de Luz resort in the Algarve on May 3, 2007.
A spokesperson for the couple told the media:
“If the Australian TV show contains any credible, fresh lines of inquiry they should, of course, have been given immediately to the police.”
The show airs on Sunday night.
