Florida sheriff forced to ask people not to shoot at Hurricane Irma after joke gets out of hand

Shooting at a hurricane = bad idea. Who knew?

We always thought some things were just too obvious to ignore.

The sky is blue, water is wet, and don’t try to defend yourself against a hurricane by firing a gun at it.

Wait, what?

A Sheriff’s Department in Florida has had to warn people not to shoot their guns at the impending Hurrican Irma, following a Facebook joke that got wildly out of hand.

Someone set up a Facebook event, which has over 46,000 people attending, which suggested that shooting at Irma would be the best course of action in defending Florida from the storm.

The description of the event read: “It’s time we took a stand against this bully! This is our home, nobody drives us out of our own territory.

“Join me in this fight as we shoot flames at Hurricane Irma and dissipate her on the spot.”

And so they did. As you can tell by the many thousands of people clicking ‘Attend’, it might have slightly spiralled out of control. That’s where the Sheriff’s office had to step in.

In the case of Bullet vs Storm, the storm is going to win, every time. Don’t shoot guns at storms.
