“Our great and powerful princess.”
George Lucas, the man behind the Star Wars franchise, has joined the thousands of people paying tribute to Carrie Fisher, who passed away earlier today at the age of 60.
Fisher was an actress, a writer and producer — but her most iconic on-screen role was as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films.
Lucas cast Fisher in the first Star Wars movie in 1977, and the two have remained friends ever since. Lucas has released a statement in which he describes Fisher as “extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colourful personality that everyone loved.”
