First there was ‘Chill, Donald!’, now this
Donald Trump has left the White House for the final time as US president. Yes, the last four years really did happen.
After his spectacularly undignified (but not entirely surprising) reaction to losing the presidential election to Joe Biden last year, Trump is not hanging around for his successor’s inauguration ceremony. Instead, he has opted to head south for his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and has left Washington D.C. for a final time as president.
Amongst those to acknowledge his departure was Greta Thunberg, whose tweet swiftly racked up the retweets after referencing a tweet Trump had sent about her back in September 2019.
A matter of hours after the youth climate activist had delivered an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit which called on world leaders to act with more urgency to address the climate crisis, the president was widely criticised for the mocking tweet he posted in response.
‘She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,’ he tweeted, sarcastically. ‘So nice to see!’
Not for the first time, for those who remember Thunberg’s magnificent reaction to his election defeat meltdown, the 18-year-old was able to rehash Trump’s tweet and use it against him.
Accompanied with a picture of him boarding a helicopter, Thunberg tweeted: ‘He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!’
