It could end up costing travellers nearly £3,000
Travellers to the UK who test positive for Covid-19 will face an extra charge of up to £1,216, it has been revealed.
This is on top of the £1,750 fee that they will already have been charged to stay at the approved hotel.
Further details about the £152 a day charge to incoming travellers has now been revealed on the Government’s website – after some of the first arrivals have checked in.
From Monday, those arriving in England who have been in countries on the so-called ‘red list’ – those at high risk of coronavirus variants – in the past ten days, must quarantine in a hotel.
In Scotland, the restrictions are even tougher, with travellers from all countries having to quarantine in a hotel, except those arriving from the Common Travel Area (CTA).
The extra £1,200 cost will come from the extra nights guest would have to remain in the hotel if they get a positive test.
Arrivals have to stay at the hotel for at least eleven nights. They will receive a test on day two and day eight of their isolation.
If they test positive on the second day’s test, the stay will be extended by two nights, at a cost of £304.
If the eighth day’s test is found to be positive, they will then have to remain in quarantine for eight more nights and pay a total of pay £1,216.
That means the total they would have to pay is nearly £3,000.
The 33 countries currently on the red list, that have been deemed at high risk of coronavirus variants, are Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Eswatini, French Guiana, Guyana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores), Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe
