Theresa May wants her live Brexit TV debate with Jeremy Corbyn to be held at 8pm on BBC

Theresa May has announced that her live debate against Jeremy Corbyn will be broadcast on BBC at 8pm on 9 Sunday, but the Labour leader believes that it should be shown earlier to avoid a clash with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

Corbyn’s preference for his Brexit showdown with Theresa May is for it to be held on ITV at 7pm ahead of the I’m a Celeb final, where as the prime minister would prefer for it to take place at 8pm on the BBC.

Theresa May has publicly accepted her preferred option, however Corbyn’s team say that negotiations are still on-going.

Speaking on This Morning, Corbyn said 7pm on ITV was a better option as “one should always have respect for the viewer”, adding of the Australia-based reality TV show: “I want to watch it myself as well.”

The ITV plan is for a straight head-to-head debate, where as the BBC debate would include a panel of people involved in the Brexit debate asking questions of the two party leaders.

The SNP, Lib Dems, Plaid Cymru and Greens have also all said that they should be involved in the debate. But May has rejected this, saying that the Conservative and Labour represent almost 90% of MPs in the Commons between them.

The debate will comes as the PM tries to convince parliamentarians to back her Brexit plan in order to get it through parliament.

At present, Labour, Lib Dem, SNP and DUP politicians are poised to vote against the agreement and nearly a hundred Tory MPs have publicly spoken out against it, meaning it may not receive the required majority for the bill to pass.
