There are 15 other candidates, including YouTubers Max Fosh and Niko Omilana as well as Count Binface, who will also lose their deposits, with the main parties taking the vast majority of the vote.
Candidates must receive at least five per cent of the vote share in order to get their deposit back. As it stands, Labour candidate Sadiq Khan has received over half a million votes, with Tory candidate Shaun Bailey just behind on over 436,000.
After Green candidate Sian Berry and Luisa Porritt of the Liberal Democrats Reform UK (rebranded Brexit Party) are the fifth most popular vote, with three times as many votes as all of the independent candidates combined.
Laurence Fox, shot to fame after offering some bad rightwing opinions on Question Time, and has the last year campaigning against lockdown measure, and more recently patronising NHS staff on Twitter.
As the country gradually comes out of lockdown, with an overwhelming sense of gratitude to the NHS staff who continue to work tirelessly to save as many lives as they can under difficult working conditions, it truly is a mystery as to why Fox’s campaign didn’t cut through more in London.
The money raised from the deposit payments, estimated between £160,000 or £170,000, will be used to pay for the costs of running the election by London Elects.
