‘Loch Ness Monster’ caught on drone footage by wild camper

Nessie, is that really you?

A wild camper got a monster of a surprise when he looked back on his 4k drone footage.

The video appeared to show the ‘Loch Ness Monster’.

Richard Mavor, from Embsay, was taking part in the great glen canoe challenge in Scotland when he supposedly captured the mythical beast.

At first, the 54-year-old pilot didn’t spot the long-necked beast, seemingly lurking on the bank of the loch in August, until more eagle-eyed observers commented on the video posted to his YouTube page, Richard Outdoors.

Mavor told the Daily Record that he “couldn’t believe” what he saw and had to rewind the footage several times.

“I don’t know what it is but it certainly has the same shape as previous sightings of Nessie,” he said.

“The more I watch it I think ‘crikey!’ there really wasn’t anything in the area that could be.”

Mavor said there was no visible driftwood visible, “or anything like that so who knows,” but conceded, “it could be a trick of the light”.

Mavor said he was simply trying to get some “nice shots on the beach” for his YouTube channel.

Along with his group, Mavor raised £15,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society during the challenge.

Reports of a monster inhabiting Loch Ness date back to ancient times and the first written account appears in a biography of St. Columba from 565 AD, according to Britannaca.

The creature is thought to be a myth, with much of the evidence to support its existence discredited.Â
