McDonald’s accused of “partitionism” by Sinn Féin politician because of a special edition burger

Begorrah!

McDonald’s have been called many things in their time but we’re guessing that this is a first even for them.

Sinn Féin West Tyrone representative Barry McElduff has labeled the fast food chain as ‘partitionist’ after it was announced that their new “Irish” burger would only be sold in the Republic of Ireland, and not the six counties in the North.

McElduff told The Irish News: “It is not ‘mór go leor’ because it does not incorporate the six counties. If it’s available in Letterkenny then it should be available in Omagh.

“There is a popular McDonald’s in Omagh and I know the patrons in the county of Tyrone would fully expect to have the choice of a McMór.

“McDonald’s is a global firm and some people have concerns about its ethics, but we can now add the sin of partitionism to the list.”

The McMór features a ‘potato-flaked’ bun, shredded cabbage, Irish bacon, Ballymaloe relish and Charleville cheddar as a “tribute to the best produce and finest flavours from across Ireland”.

Despite being available for just a run of six weeks, this is the second headache the burger has caused McDonald’s already after the Irish Food Safety Authority stepped in to prevent the fast food giants as describing the burger as “artisan” because it did not meet their guidelines.
